In Rwanda, the aspiring groom has to give a cow in bride-price.
Lack of funds means lack of unions and an excess of sad,
loitering youths and pining maidens. Not only does a cow bring
lonely hearts together, but in producing milk, dung and calves,
provides income for life and the basis for married bliss.

Phones can revolutionise communications for African villagers,
but the cost remains beyond their budgets. So why not help
establish a "village phone booth" operated by local
women? £75 start-up funds the phone, contract, table and
umbrella so villagers can keep in touch with their families,
their men working in distant towns and get medical advice in
an emergency. The operators provide a vital service while
generating much needed income.
